This webcam looks southwest across Glenelg Bay towards the village of Glenelg which is just out of view to the left. The largest of the Sandaig Island, Eilean Mòr, is visible on the horizon.
Bernera Farmhouse is available as a self-catering holiday let from Glenelg Cottages.
A picture is taken every 15 minutes between the hours of 05:00 and 22:00 UK local time (5am to 10pm). Outside of these hours there is nothing to see but blackness. Not just any blackness, but that special West Coast of Scotland blackness that, devoid of light pollution, is so black that light literally falls in to it. Click on the tables of times and dates to the left to jump directly to a hour. Please remember that you can only view pictures for today up to the current time!
Use the video recorder style buttons
forward and
rewind buttons under the picture to step through the selected day 15 minutes at a time. Alternatively press the
play button to play a time-lapse sequence from morning until night.

The largest of the Sandaig Islands, Eilean Mòr, is visible on the horizon. It was was at Sandaig, on the mainland to the left, that author and naturalist Gavin Maxwell lived in the former lighthouse keepers cottage. Maxwell is famous for his series of otter books, including of course Ring of Bright Water. The books document his experience with the otters he brought to the island which went under the pseudonym of Camusfeàrna. In 1968 the cottage burned down and Edal, star of the Ring of Bright Water book died in the fire. Gavin Maxwell moved to another keepers cottage on Eilean Bàn where he died of cancer the following year. He is buried at Sandaig beside a small memorial to Edal.
Meanwhile Eilean Bàn is today a wildlife sanctuary with a thriving otter population, established with the assistance of the Born Free Foundation and actress Virginia McKenna OBE who appeared in the film of Ring of Bright Water.
